LNK 305 input stage rectifier second diode

Hello,
I am designing circuit usink LNK 305. I follow manual and i am wondering why are two diodes used for half wave rectifier.
Can i use only one top diode for rectifier or i need second one on bottom? I need MCU on mains potential referenced to neutral

Yes, you can design half wave rectification using one diode only.
Half wave rectification with two diodes is preferred to improve required differential line surge performance.
